On Advice for Your Younger Self

This topic is the result of listener input, bracket building, and voting! We discuss the listener's choice topic: advice for your younger self. It was more difficult to list these out than we thought it would be as we wanted to be as original as possible, and not offer up the same advice we always hear. We discuss some practical, general and spiritual advice we would give ourselves through different seasons. It was an exercise that will be beneficial moving forward, so we encourage that you think through the question: what advice would you give your younger self?

On Rest; Are We Doing it Right?

This episode features the ramblings of two people in the throws of summer and running on empty, regarding rest. But really, the premise of this show is rest, and our priest's wisdom shared on Sunday, where he challenged the congregation to rest and "sharpen our tools". We also discuss the challenge of resting within an overstimulated world; or is that just an excuse? We read the gospel passage from this Sunday in context and realize we are all being chased by something, so we have to make a concerted effort to rest and "sharpen" when needed.

On One Scoop at a Time (with special guest and author Ricky Dickson)

We welcome Ricky Dickson into our studio for this week's episode and discuss his time at Blue Bell through the lens of his new book, One Scoop at a Time. The book is filled with stories from fear to faith, and Ricky shares about his time at Blue Bell and wisdom gained through faith throughout his career. His stories highlight the quality of the company and the products; by the end of it you will be digging your ice cream out of the freezer. This interview will give you a taste of the kind of storyteller Ricky is and soon you'll be ordering his book to enjoy more.

On Storms; Beryl and Otherwise

This episode is very conversational and light. As always, we are discussing what we are discussing in our household right now, meaning the topic is the impending storm, Beryl. We reminisce on storms past, our preparation for this one, and how sometimes we receive advanced warning and sometimes what is supposed to be a light thunderstorm turns into tornadoes and high wind. There are similarities to life's spiritual storms, and we discuss the importance of a firm foundation and different ways we can attempt to prepare for what we may face next. 

On The Great Divorce

This episode reviews the book The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis, gives a synopsis of the story, and discusses our takeaways, which were many. We talk about some of the specific stories of the characters as well as Lewis' depiction of Heaven, Hell, and everything in between. The book is fantasy but packed with thought provoking content and parallels with biblical ideas. We talk about the inner conversations this book prompted and how it was a very centering read.

On Summer Gardens and Clean(er) Eating (with special guest Aaron Boer)

We discuss our lessons learned thus far in our garden; what we will change and do the same for next season. Aaron gives us some good tips on cooking in general but also specifically seasonal vegetables. He also shares about his journey in clean eating; replacements he has made and shifts and habits he has implemented over the last year that have resulted in major health improvement. Aaron's depth of interest in cooking translates into some great takeaway tips for a healthier and enjoyable experience with food.

On Growing Kids in Faith (with special guest Bubba Morgan)

On this episode we discuss the importance of imparting the faith on our kids at an early age. We talk about some of the reasons we may miss this opportunity as parents, and how and why we should overcome those reasonings. We all share the perspective of having our faith grown and tested through parenting, and Bubba shares his story of finding out his son is on the spectrum for autism. He shares about their journey as a family and advice he has both for families in a similar situation and those that interact with them. This conversation serves as a great reminder to strike up a discussion with kids on God, and being more like Him through our love for others. 

On Fatherhood

This episode is for the dads! We discuss the weight and responsibility of fatherhood alongside the joy of being the superhero. We talk about the constant struggle of discipline and the task of "train(ing) up a child in the way they should go." The parallel of our relationship with our fathers and our relationship with God is drawn and we talk about the early stages on to a more mature relationship. Lastly we share our favorite thing about our Dads and the way they raised us.

This episode provides a wealth of ideas on how to make this summer a fruitful one for our kids. Kali Beal joins us as a guest and shares her perspective as a homeschooling mother. We share thoughts on structuring our day, toys and imagination development, and even some lunch and snack ideas. Whether you are the parent, grandparent, or know someone spending the summer with or working around kids, this episode should spark some good thoughts and ideas!

On Marriage Prep & Lessons Learned

In honor of our recent anniversary, we reflect on the time leading up to our marriage. We walk through what our specific marriage prep looked like with the church as well as the hurdle of choosing a denomination. Darcy poses a couple of reflective questions on what prep resources were most useful and impactful and what has been easiest and most difficult within marriage thus far.
