Well, election day is upon us, and I think we are at least all united in our anxiety. This episode discusses the challenges of navigating politics and faith, being responsible but not giving ourselves over to worry. We discuss how we plan to cope with the anxieties of the next few days in a healthy way. Deep breaths, we will all be okay. 

On Spooks, Saints and Souls

A discussion on the history of Halloween; where it started, how it has changed and merged with other celebrations. We discuss Halloween origins, cultural adaptations, Church holidays, and more. We both found all the history so interesting and hope this discussion provides some history nuggets and also helps your family enjoy it's own Halloween/fall season with some additional fun facts. 

On Capitalism, Greed, and First-Fruits

We enter this episode tackling the question that Brian and I have been discussing in our own house: is Capitalism Christian? As you can imagine, the answer is nuanced in our opinion, but the discussion fleshes out strengths and weaknesses of the world we live in as well as calls to action. We share each of our support points found in the Bible and discuss how we can check greed at the door. 

A Sunday Reflection: October 13th, 2024

We go off script for this episode, delivering a podcast that doesn't follow our normal format but is in line with our platform nonetheless. Darcy addresses listeners solo and provides a Sunday reflection on the Bible readings. The gospel reading is entitled "The Rich Young Man" and we discuss wealth, obedience, and abandoning the world. On Facing Uncertainty

Many people on our minds during this past week; those facing sudden job loss, grief, divorce, catastrophic weather damage. All living in some pool of uncertainty, and dealing with the mixture of emotions that comes with. While I do hope this episode is encouraging to you, it's also just a commiseration for you to feel seen and supported, and for us to "sit with you" as Job's friends did. In that way, I hope we lift your spirits and help you handle your season of uncertainty!

On The Happiness Advantage (with special guest Haley Harris)

This week's episode has a special guest host, Haley Harris, joining us for a topic with which she has particular expertise. We give our version of cliff notes on the book The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor and discuss the research behind positive psychology and the relation between happiness and success. We dive into ways we can bring more happiness into our life, both in our work and at home, and the affect it has been proven to have on our brain, productivity, and ultimately success. Then we take our discussion a step further and view this topic through a Christian lens. Haley was the perfect perspective to have on this episode and this book provides good reason to examine and expand our happiness, and further to grow a deep-rooted, joy-providing faith.

On Bible Study

Darcy has been enjoying her recent bible study and sharing new connections and stories with Brian. On this episode we dive into the importance and benefits of bible study, as well as the different types--community versus personal, and all the resources available to us. We discuss the grounding affects bible study can have on our faith, an undeniable benefit and necessity as we are tossed around by the things of the world.

On Politics and Christianity

This episode is pretty self explanatory: politics and Christianity. The topics are difficult, nothing is as simple as we'd like it, so how can we navigate politics through a Christian lens? We discuss a handful of heavy political topics including abortion, immigration, and the death penalty. We stay away from "red" or "blue" discussion, but begin with a biblical discussion that then evolves into how we can best work that out in our current world. We hope you'll stumble through it with us and have some of these same discussions within your circles!

On the Power of Prayer

In this week's discussion we share how we have each felt the power of prayer in different times of our lives. We dive into our own personal experiences with prayer, how our backgrounds have shaped our prayer habits, and how we are trying to grow. We talk about recited prayers and conversational prayers and how we believe both can be beneficial and glorify God. In regards to recited prayers and denominational differences we give an overview of the Rosary, what it is meant for, common misconceptions, and our own experiences praying the mysteries. To wrap it up we share tips that have improved our own prayer lives in hopes that they encourage someone else!

On Time Management; Doing More with Less

Our first episode back for Season 2! This episode discusses a practice we are personally striving to use to add quality to our lives: time management. The world is constantly drawing on our most precious resource, time, and with our stage in life we are having to be very intentional with our allotted hours in the day. It will look different for everyone, but we discuss the framework with which to use this practice to enhance your life in a way that aligns with your personal priorities.
